Mazda's first outing

We have just finished our Mazda RX4 with the running gear out of the Cortina in it. BBC 454. The Mazda is about 200lb lighter that the cortina, so should run 9.4's to 9.5 - that was the plan. Every time we took the cortina out with changes made, it never ran the numbers that we thought, so was this going to be another disappointing day?
